Yeah, your average redditor is in a perpetual state of smugness. Passive-aggressiveness is their primary form of expression, with rage (whenever their worldview is challenged even slightly, and almost always framed as being "morally justified outrage") and self-righteousness being a close 2nd and 3rd. Whenever someone asks a question in a subreddit, half of the replies are unfunny, snarky, sarcastic responses that don't answer the question at all. They somehow think they're being witty with their basic reddit sarcasm. Between Reddit sarcasm, irony-poisoning, and unfunny quips, it seems like most people these days are allergic to being sincere and direct about anything.
I've seen a lot of posts where people say the best way to get redditors to honestly answer a question is to ask on one account then answer your own question on a second account. Inevitably, a redditor will be incidentally helpful by "correcting" you on the alternate account. As much as redditors love their snarky basic sarcasm (or as I like to call it, "soycasm") many can't pass up an opportunity to assert their "superiority" by correcting someone on something, even if it's a completely irrelevant and trivial detail.
This is one of the reasons nerds used to get bullied back in the day. It wasn't just because they're "different", it's because this is how many of them behave unless someone is putting them in their place. Unfortunately, terminally online dorks are the majority now and reddit is one of the most popular sites on the internet, so these smug redditors have too much strength in numbers for people to put them in their place.
Anyway, my only advice to you is instead of asking reddit, just ask AI. This is another reason I'm e/acc. While I'm an extrovert by nature, these days people are so socially stunted and insufferable that I'd rather just not deal with the average person.
