Minus the fact that it’s an obnoxious leftist echo chamber with a Stasi-like police force, it pisses me off so much when I think back to how vibrant Internet forums used to be. Different forums and websites each used to have a unique culture and feel to them. Now that’s been replaced with a uniform, “polished” hivemind. It’s all so sterile.
If you have some niche interest and want to interact with said community, you HAVE to sell your individuality to Reddit as that’s really the only place the community exists. Discord exists as the only real alternative but I don’t need to tell you that place is shit, plus a chat room is a very different experience than a message board.
The worst part is that normies just don’t give a flying fuck. They’re more than happy to let a handful of gay programmers in San Francisco gatekeep communities and police the way people talk if it means they can continue their rat race for fake Internet clout. The vast majority of people really don’t care about the freedom of speech or their privacy.
