Following has nothing to do with tagging though. That’s watching. Following doesn’t give you notifs when they post. It’s just like the equivalent of a Facebook friend.

So that’s why I follow most people who follow me, but I don’t watch anyone because all the notifs would be annoying

Yeah, I also had no idea wtf any of it actually did when I joined, and I just tried stuff to find out.

It’s kinda confusing they label it as “followers”. You’d think that means you’d get your notifs filled when they post, but that is not the case.

So I have no problem following people I get along with, but watching is just silliness with how many notifs you get

To begin with, this doesn't even apply to the topic of the thread, because as you yourself just said, I'm not a recently registered "greycel." I've been here for a year and a half.

Anyway, I followed you from this comment. I follow the people I do from reading something I like and agree with they wrote on a past thread I read, or a recent comment on a more recent one. I'm not an anomaly on reading old threads because the format of this website is conducive to them sticking around, being easy to find, and it's normal for old threads to be bumped and replied to again after a long time of inactivity.

I think nothing of following, I've yet to see a feature on the site that immediately shows activity of people I follow. It's just a way for me to see recent activity of users I may be interested in the thoughts of from my profile since it puts them all in one place, and from there it helps to find threads I may be interested in. I assume that's the main point.
