In my understanding gypsies are a nomadic community who originated somewhere in Asia and migrated all the way to eastern europe. This reflects in their racial phenotype. Their nomadic lifestyle means that they never became part of settled civilized culture of their host states.

It is a race, there are sub differences between gypsies, probably from what tribe they originated.
Many are thieves, thats true they will steal if the opportunity comes up. Also they make 4-8 kids and milk the state.
Great majority works with buying and reselling electronics, cars, also recycling bottles, paper, metals, like buying from regular folks scrap metals and old things made from metals then reselling it to factories.
As bigger companies started salvaging scrap metals themselves many gypsies started working at fruit plantations and Chinese factories.
