Feeling pissed at the state of society and how I’m treated by others in everyday interactions, so I am gonna get some thoughts out here that I’ve been holding in for a while. No need to read it if you’re not interested but I appreciate it if you do and of course welcome any feedback:
Although we aren’t constantly aware of it, we’ve been brainwashed our whole lives to behave in a way that benefits others and society at large. These are prosocial behaviors. For example, saving water by turning off the faucet when we don’t need it, or saving energy by turning off the lights when we’re done with them. There are many more too.
But who does this benefit? Recently I’ve been contemplating the meaning of these actions and their place in the lives of incels. In a society where everyone is respected, and where everyone has a chance to reproduce and “pass down” society to the next generation, these behaviors make sense. Individuals are incentivized to leave the world in good shape so that those who inherit it will benefit from their actions. People who are treated with courtesy and respect are incentivized to “pay forward” to others the goodwill that was shown to them.
But what of the class of people who are shunned, who are treated as if they are invisible or even as if they are evil, based just on how they look? And who as a result are not given the opportunity to reproduce, or even the opportunity to have a chance at it? I’m taking about incels of course.
It is frankly very selfish of society to expect these things of us. We are treated as second class citizens who do not deserve basic human decency (being acknowledged, treated as humans, etc), but we are expected to make sacrifices and inconvenience ourselves for the sake of the very same society that treats us this way. And to smile and be happy about it.
I’m going to continue looking for ways that I’ve been groomed by society to keep playing into this system. I welcome everyone’s thoughts and responses to what I’ve written here. Thanks for reading.
