Babies should lay down and rot when they are ill, as even if they recover they will be smaller, weaker and have a load of health problems even if they manage to survive. The same can be said for most prematurely born babies, as most of them do not catch up in both physical and mental development compared to their peers. I believe this problem contributes to the rise of inkwelldom, as babies who are inferior should've died at birth considering in the past, even royals would have 10+ kids and half of them would be dead within the first few weeks of birth.
