people think that an adult is someone 18 or older and a child is someone under 18. that's only the legal definition of adult and child. the biological definition is very different. in fact, the biological definition is much better because laws don't define biology and if laws didn't exist, society would realize that once you finish puberty you're an adult. throughout history, society focused on the biological definition instead.
if you look up the definition of a child, it's defined as someone who is prepubescent. childhood is defined as the period of life after infancy and before the beginning of puberty. An adolescent is someone who is pubescent, someone who is changing from a child to an adult. it's not the same thing as a teenager. for example, a 13 year old who is still prepubescent is a child but a 13 year old who is going through puberty is now an adolescent. post-pubescent teenagers are adults. puberty is defined as the time where you are becoming sexually mature and able to reproduce and are becoming an adult. that's what puberty is defined as. once you're finished with puberty (aka post-pubescent), you're biologically an adult, you're finished growing and developing. i read about a 27 year old guy who hasn't reached puberty yet. he is NOT an adult. maybe legally he is but NOT biologically. he is still biologically a kid.
some normies might argue "bUt 25 yEaR oLdS aRe MoRe DevELOpeD tHaN pOsT-pUbEscENt TeeNs" but guess what? 25 year olds aren't often 100% finished growing either. you certainly aren't done growing at 21 or 22, but 21/22 year olds are still called adults. people in their early-mid 20s aren't 100% grown either, but grown enough to be an adult because they finished puberty. a post-pubescent 16 year old is a fully grown woman.
at age 21, 22, 23, a woman will still have young teenage voice and still will pass for a teenager, their voices and appearance don't look more grown until they are in their late 20s. According to Science Daily, the female pelvis becomes "wider and" reaches "its full width around the age of 25-30 years." so women age 20-24 aren't 100% growing but they're still women because they're post-pubescent. and even men in their early-mid 20s aren't done growing. a 21/22 year old man isn't as grown as a 30 year old man. In their early-mid 20s, guys will still have a young teenage voice and will still look young while at age 30, their voice is usually deeper and they can grow facial hair more. For example, look at some famous men when they were in their early-mid 20s and then look at them at age 40 and their voice much deeper and they look more grown now. Other studies show that women finish maturing at age 32 and men finish maturing at age 43 and that we aren't completely grown until age 25 or even our 30s. One study says you're still an adolescent until 24.
So people in their early-mid 20s aren't 100% grown, but are still adults because they're post-pubescent and thus grown enough to be an adult. Girls finish puberty at age 15-17 and guys finish puberty at age 16-18. Once you're finished with puberty, you're done changing into an adult and thus are now a biological adult. Full stop.
Child=prepubescent
adolescent=pubescent
adult=post-pubescent
this idea that you're a child at 17 and magically become an adult at 18 isn't how nature works. under 18 is simply a minor that 18 or older is what I call a major.
many people will often say "BuT oLDer tEEns ArE imMAtuRE sO tHEy ArEn'T ReALLy aDuLts". so? i think people in their 20s are immature and childish. in fact, once you get in your 30s, you'll finally realize how immature people in their 20s are. i'm 22 and already notice it. every person in their 20s i've met acts childish. they cuss, fight over the most trivial things, and on social media they're very likely to share stuff about no nut november and dumb jokes that make NO sense. they outgrow it in their 30s. it's laughable to think that 25 year olds are just as mature as 35 year olds.
Teen=/=adolescent. teen just means the word "teen" is in the number of their age. adolescent means they're pubescent.
