In Germany it's 14 which is too low imo, 16 seems adequate if you ask me. That being said age should be considered in abuse situations.

16 is a good age for consent, with the romeo juliet law in place.

In most jurisdictions, it is. Certain crimes perpetrated against minors below a certain age will incur harsher sentencing conditions.

It should be raised. Children should not be sexualised - there is far too much sex and degeneracy in western society. Sex should be illegal until the age of 21.
If the laws were fairly and equally enforced, raising the age of consent to 21 or higher would benefit men greatly. I'm tired of seeing women my age dating 18-20 year old guys. Also when married women have affairs it's almost always with a much younger man.
Of course we all know in practice, women are not punished nearly as harshly as men are for having sex with minors. They're also far less likely to get charged to begin with.

Good point. The observation that "girls didn't look like that when I was in high school" has valid scientific basis. Anecdotally speaking, one of my former martial arts students was only 10 years of age but she could have passed for a middle-schooler easily. Her parents had to bring a copy of her freaking birth certificate to tournaments just to prove her age.

Be sure that the proposed statute explicitly states that the burden of proof regarding the female's ability to ovulate rests solely on her during any legal proceeding in a court of law. Otherwise, only rich guys would be able to establish a legal defense against statuory rape.

I think it should be at 14 with lax laws on her needing to prove her age if she lied about it. In other words, if she looks like she COULD be 14 (not including freak, 0.0001% of population type girls), you're good no matter what. That way, a 13 year old can't lie and say she's 18 and have you dragged off to prison because you didn't I.D. her. There could easily be set up a system of blindly showing whether a girl appears to be 14. It's simple. Have a group of people being shown photos of girls of various ages (some practice may help) and have them guess their age. Look at the accuracy of each person and give more weight to that person's decision. Throw in actual court cases blindly into these viewing sessions and see what % of people say she looks like she could be 14. Then give extra weight or lesser weight to individual participants based on how high their actual accuracy % is for determining age.
Or we could just throw men in prison to be raped for 35 years because they had sex with a 17 year old smoker who lied and said she was 22, looked 30, and probably fucked a ton of other dudes including the judge.
