It's subservient behaviour of person of lower social standing (based on looks, expertise or whatever) towards someone higher in hierarchy.
You can calmly say things such as: "Please", "Thank you" and not be polite.
A bit more challenging stance, murderous glint in your eye may ruin every effort of apperaing polite and make you seem rude, insolent.
