Poison started out in Final Fight as a generic female enemy and later became a proper Street Fighter character. The whole “Poison is a troon” thing seems to mostly come from Western localization, where Capcom feared backlash over male characters hitting a woman, so they redesigned her as technically male in the West.
Creator Akira Nishitani (Final Fight director) insists she was always a 100% foid in intent. He never "admitted" transness. He waved it off as player headcanon. In Japan, she is basically always treated as a foid in official stuff and most fan circles. In the West, it is more ambiguous, not canonically trans, but some later comments from devs like Ono and Yasuda leaned into the trans angle for international releases, so it kinda stuck in fan discourse.
So yeah, regional split: Japan = foid, West = ambiguous/trans-leaning.
I personally consider her a foid. She is a cool character design tainted by moronic discourse because some japs were paranoid about backlash over hitting women.
What do you think?
