Usually old fps game still can be fun like Doom or Quake as their gameplay is still good, they have nice punchy guns, graphics obviously will get dated.

While in Painkiller all guns feel extremely weak, enemies are massive bullet sponges and only sometimes react to your attacks, they even managed to make shotgun feel ultra weak with massive spread and useless alt attack that can only freeze a single enemy LMAO.

Biggest issue in the game are not just ultra weak guns but how HP works as you don't regnerate HP/armor and you also don't have medkits outside of ultra rare golden souls that may be just as a single secret on the map. You heal through killing enemies and they will give you just 1-2hp per kill, you need to stand where their body was when they died which result in even more dmg and oh man enemy dmg is just devastating on their hard mode a single enemy can take 20hp from you in a single hit!!!

This is even more torturous than any souls game as at least they give you flasks and you can lvl up and upgrade armor/stats and your weapons to kill enemies faster, you can't have any of those in Painkiller you will feel only Pain while playing this turd. Such awful game design makes game completely unplayable in traditional way of playing (so going forward shooting and sometimes strafing avoiding projectiles) and forces you to play like a bitch that either bunny hop like it's god damn quake 3/unreal tournament 2004 in pvp or hide behind cover, you can't really out strafe hitscanning bastards without bunnyhopping. It's not fun and it's ultra tedious. You will always get instagibbed by random enemy as you can't heal at all. Garbage gameplay that was even bad back then. Bosses are as bad they always have boring gimmick that doesn't work most of the time (first boss i had to retry like 50 times to trigger script lmao)

Game has really beautiful levels that's the only positive of the game i could give.

So let's look at weapons:

Melee - Useless most of the time unless you want to conserve ammo. No point in using it especially against hitscanning enemies.

Shotgun - Atrocious spread and very low dmg you have to risk going into melee range and get huge chunk of your hp deleted. But at least you can hide behind cover and kill enemies one by one. Freeze alt fire is useless as it only freezes one enemy.

Stakegun - Low dmg usually you need 2-3 hits to kill enemy while they can attack you with hitscan guns instantly it has awful flying arch so you can't really snipe anyone, nade launcher is too slow and doesn't explode near enemies you need to hit them with pixel perfect accuracy. It's yet another awful weapon that is not usuable.

Rocket Launcher - You will deal more dmg to yourself than to enemies. Good dmg while hitting against chest usually 1hk. Laughably small aoe, barely any stagger so you have to use it at around 15m from you and always hit against chest, don't even try using it at long range as rockets explode instantly after about 50m... MG alt fire deals too low dmg and ammo is ultra rare like finding gold. It's mediocre but it's only gun that can reliably kill enemies despite being mid.

Electrogun - Garbage it's only useful vs trash enemies and you can't even kill them at mid range as your bullets explode instantly past 20m. Alt fire is even worse should be aoe that electrocute all trash mobs but it does only light dmg against one enemy. Put this gun into a trash with Stakegun.


Question to the devs: Why i can't pick M16 and ditch my garbage guns? I know you wanted to be quirky and different but why do i need to suffer using dogshit weak guns that ruin game (along with soul mechanics which results in being always at near death's door) while enemies just keep shooting cool guns or even use mortar turrets or tanks...
