The brain is structured in three ways:
Rational: Neocortex.
Emotional: Limbic system.
Instinctual: Cerebellum and spinal cord.
The limbic system is responsible for sexual arousal.
The cerebral regions match Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
At the bottom, the most instinctual needs like food, water, shelter, and sleep.
In the middle, the emotional needs like care, kinship, love, and friendship.
At the top, the most intellectual needs like education, self-actualization, knowledge, and information.
Sex for pleasure is at the bottom.
Sex with intimacy is in the middle.
Now imagine you get no sex, whether for pleasure or with intimacy. Worse: You get no love and have no sense of belonging.
How are you supposed to reach the top? How are you supposed to achieve self-actualization?
Every time I read, write, study and think, my body begs for sexual intercourse. My neocortex is overwhelmed by my limbic system. Sex is absolutely necessary for us to function.
