When I was young, I was in Boy Scouts.
Most summers, we would hike a certain trail for a week.
We would usually cover between 12 to 15 miles a day, depending on where the next good campsite was at.
On one of these trips, a small group of us boys were far ahead of the main group.
So, we stopped and waited for a while.
When the main group caught up, some of the boys teased the slower group, but I did not.
The boy, who I thought was my friend, got angry at me for some reason.
Maybe because he was even behind the slow group.
Then he insisted that I carry half of his pack load.
The adults readily agreed to this.
So, I carried about 150 pounds of gear and food for the rest of the trip.
Hiking many more miles with it.
Without complaint.
At the time, I was pissed for weeks after that trip.
But, thinking about it now, I am glad the experience happened.
It was many experiences like this that made me strong.
Able to endure anything.
These experiences shaped my mindset.
