The religious and cultural tensions between Hinduism, Islam and to a lesser extent Sikhism will forever prevent South Asian males from uniting in any real way. A real shame tbh and something that has been repeatedly exploited by outsiders time and time again.

Afghans are mainly Islamic though right? Indian Muslims and Pakistanis feel more kinship with the Islamic world than with people on the sub continent. That could explain why they were inviting Afghans to invade.

No I know what you are saying but at the same time the divison between Hinduism and Islam has played a large part in South Asian males (Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi) from ever being united.
Why do you even want to unite with someone who hates you anyway? I'm not hateful or anything, I'm just being pragmatic. Even if they're irreligious, they have a special kind of hate, not all of them, but most. I can never find why that is, but it is what it is. Some sort of a nuanced latent hate, just talk about history or something, it will be on your face, with everyone, every non Hindu south Asian for that matter.
Because others still see all of you as South Asian males at the end of the day and by being divided and against each other you make outsider's jobs easier for them.

South Asia is like a brown Europe, these nations like Punjabis, Tamils to name a few are substantially different from each other, the only thing that brought all of them under a common agreeable turf was religion and a common civilisational origin, for Indians it was the Dharmic faiths, you delete them from the equation there's nothing agreeable amongst them anymore.
