I haven't played too many old rpgs in the past (by old I mean pre PS2 era) and recently I've gotten into the final fantasy franchise. I've 100%ed FF1 and I'm playing through FF2 rn. These games are so strange to me bcs they do not tell you what to do whatsoever. You are basically forced into talking to every NPC you see in hopes of getting a hint as to where to go or what to do.
Tbh I quite like it. It gives it a bit more challenge and makes figuring out what to do a lot more rewarding. My only issue is that I'll sometimes forget what to do so I have to backtrack to some village to speak to an NPC to figure out my next move. This has caused me to become a bit over leveled bcs I spend so much time backtracking.

You should play the older Persona games.

should have specified you were talking about JRPGs so I wouldn't have to click on this thread

The Super Nintendo JRPGs are excellent; I've played a lot of them recently, and I recommend Tengai Makyou Zero and Breath of Fire II (the first one is good, but the second one is even better).
