To be fair just because she took you in doesn't mean she is a great person. She might be doing it because she doesn't want to be lonely, or she has a hero complex, or she sees future utility in you. From what I've heard from most old people, the reason you have kids is so you have people to take care of you when you get old and sick.

My own mother made sure my sister wasn't independent so she wouldn't be alone. My sister is now in her thirties and has no job and can't drive. But my mom is happy because she isn't alone. She makes her write emails for her and work the computer since she's a boomer.
