I think the idea behind this was that a person’s testosterone levels would remain stable or raging if they didn’t ejaculate before the night of the event and thus supposedly this would provide the afforementioned boost in strength, focus and determination whereas if you ejaculated the night before you’d be more tired and lethargic and not as aggressive ie lacking the proverbial eye of the tiger that makes your odds of winning much higher.
