Why do you bring up other periods anyways when almost all of human progress has occurred in the last 200 odd years. It is a fact that India has failed to develop itself after 1950s, while China, which was similarly poor at the time, has succeeded in lifting majority of its people out of poverty and filth. Even South East Asian countries, Latin American countries, and many poor Eastern European countries like Georgia and the Balkan countries are cleaner and present a higher quality of life than India. These countries are developing like India and surely have poverty too, but their sense of hygiene and dignity are far greater than that of curries. Its time to stop coping with the "we wuz kangz" in the past and confront the present reality where Indian has been failing and Indians are killing themselves to escape to other countries.
