Nightdive Studios have just released without notice a new remaster of both the original Heretic + Hexen games that are now available on all consoles!

Playing the gaypass version. New ost is pretty cool. I knew they were busy with something as they went dead silent for past few months after that SS2 remaster.

Are ai getting upgraded at stage 3 in Hexen? They were barely attacking at stage 1-2 now they spam range attacks all the time, which i like as they were too easy to kill.

I'm glad, Heretic and Hexen remasters were long overdue.

Actually skipped out on playing these because I knew they would eventually remaster them.

Comes with 2 additional brand new DLCs, multiplayer support, and runs on the Switch at 60fps/1080p. There is zero reason not to buy it. I don't think the new campaigns were designed by Machine Games either, which is a good thing.

Much like Quake and Doom 1 & 2 remastered, there's also a mod-add on browser which periodically uploads fanbase created level wads via dev discretion. Atm, there are currently 2 available.
 
Just beat 2 episodes and are by the end of Episode 3. First one was just introduction with not many monster types they got repeated too many times, so i was getting bored at times. While Chapter 2 was much more varied and fun. While Episode 3 has cool visuals but it's very tedious and annoying to play there are too many snake and skull bastards that have gazillion hp and there are also a lot of traps that forces you to fight with enemies up close.

Yellow wand - completely useless against anything but most basic mobs, it should get upgrade but it doesn't and it stays useless unless you use powerup.
Shotgun xbow - pretty good but with addition of new mobs in Ch2 it loses it's power as you need to waste 3 shots to kill just one monster.
Blue plasma - pretty good a lot of ammo and good enough dmg
Red skull wand - insanely good, has very long tracking of enemies but due very fast rof you will ran out of ammo way too often, rare ammo so use it sparingly (the best vs melee fuckers with game loves to spam at chapter 3)
Explosive wing wand - very good against crowds but lethal vs your own character due friendly fire
Demoman gun - pretty shit as it's tracking is really bad and powered up is a meme

I think the browser is significantly different compared to consoles, at least that is my experience with the Doom remaster for Switch. Add-ons which are given the thumbs up by Bethesda take a while to go through.

I'm on chapter 2 right now while playing on the second highest difficulty. It seems the devs were very fond of placing you in rooms where they spam shitloads of Sabreclaws and Weredragons while just barely giving you enough ammo to kill them all. Those sabreclaws with scorpion tales that run up to you and attack are the most annoying assholes in the game so far.

I'm playing it on normal as next difficulty made monsters to have even more hp which is total bs. Sadly that normal is too easy at times and only ambushes can be hard. Difficulty is really badly designed in this game, like in Doom they never give you enough ammo at anything but Normal. Nu-Dooms fixed that issue with a chainsaw that gives you ammo.
 
Tried Hexen and it's garbage. Trash tier level design even more confusing than of a Doom. Running around to find stupid switches on identically looking walls that merge with other colors for 20mins, yeah fuck off i'm not playing that shit.

Idea of 3 heroes is also garbage as you only have two weapons while starting what a boring slog, they may as well rename it to a find a Walle game. Heretic managed to make key searching fun and not too annoying while Hexen is just unplayable.

Monsters are just boring reskins of Heretic monsters and music is boring.

Is there something like a compass like there is with the Nightdive Quake II remaster? I heard they added something like that but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm playing Heretic rn and enjoying it. I feel like Hexen is gonna give me AIDS.

Nope no compasses they don't show you in any way where i'm supposed to go. Shit is garbage. Decided to ccontinue Heretic Episode 4 which is 10x harder on normal than first 3 episodes. I must have died like 15 times on first map. 2nd map was easier as you could run past few big enemies to conserve hp and ammo. :bigbrain: It feels like a survival horror like re4 rather than a doom clone

I have got aids from just 20mins of playing Hexen would not recommend. Seen some normies playing in coop with over 6 people but couldn't spawn

Fucking brutal. I hope they add something like that in a later update. If they thought that Quake II was AIDS enough to need a compass, I think the same should be said for Hexen.

Just got to Ep. 4 of Heretic, honestly a pretty fun challenge. I will try Hexen after but I just know it will be niggeraids.

That Call Of The Machine expansion produced by Machine Games which came with it is absolute garbage! There are just two balanced levels in the entire DLC. Everything else is just slaughter maps where they deliberately spam as much of the toughest enemies & boss types as possible without any breaks! It is completely broken & I wonder if the devs even playtest it. Total disappointment.

Yeah I agree. I think the base game and The Reckoning expansion were pretty good but everything else was kind of AIDS, ngl.
 
Finished Episode 4 it was pretty fun (except map 1 as always). But Episode 5 is pure trash what were they thinking, torch disappears so quickly and you have to run around at pitch black and there are shitload of mobs that instantly rape your ass as it's map 1 so you have nothing outside of xbox and shitty wand.

I'm at Episode 5 near the end and while it has the best visual and variation of level design it's still the worst designed of them all. Game spawns way too many monsters at same time. Ambushes stop be ambushes and become an unfun slog that how i could describe EP5, you will expect shittload of mages spamming purple bolts and mummies coming up your ass for 30th time in a row so damn boring and tiresome.

Game at Episode 5 loves to overcomplicate levels so you will be wasting 2x as much time it's pretty much prequel to garbage confusing level design of Hexen. There are barely any reason to look up for secrets as A) Game spawns more ammo than before as there are 2-3x as much of enemies to kill and B) game spawns enemies as you enter bonus area/pick up bonus items, so what's the fucking point? You get punished for discovering secrets just like in Doom
