New account question

Hey brocels, quick question. I just made this account and I've noticed I can't do a few things yet.
For example, I wanted to post on a banned user's profile, but it wouldn't let me. I accidentally clicked on someone else's profile, though, and I could post there just fine.
I also can't vote in polls or open some images. Is that just because my account is new? Do I need to keep posting before those things unlock, or is there something else I'm missing?
