And that's when you use the lifetime numbers. For the last 12 months ones, despite men reporting stalking at only about half of women's rates, it's much narrower at 45% of the total.

More than 1 in 5 women (22.5% or 28.8 million) in the United States have experienced stalking during their lifetimes. In the 12 months before the survey, 1 in 20 women (5.5% or 7.0 million) were stalked.

Approximately 1 in 10 men (9.7% or about 11.9 million) in the United States have experienced stalking in their lifetimes. In the 12 months prior to the survey, about 1 in 33 men (3.0% or 3.7 million) were stalked.

Somehow, I don't think the percentage one would think of based on what they see in the media is anywhere near close to that.

This is from the stalking data brief from CDC's upcoming 2023/2024 NISVS report. Considering that the 2016/2017 one has been enough to sustain MRAs with stats and arguments to put feminists and other misandrists on the defensive with that they wouldn't have even thought about for almost a decade, I can only imagine what effect a much more recent one will have. Though it's quite frustrating that the EU and its member states don't seem to have any counterpart to this, it would be good to not have to use just the US statistics when talking about stuff like this overall, but at least it exists.

And that's just one section, from the numbers there's actually a pretty even split of which gender experiences which stalking tactics more often in percentage terms, and the ones where men lead tend to be more serious. For example:

More than 1 in 3 female stalking victims received unwanted cards, letters, flowers, or gifts (37.3%) or had a perpetrator sneak onto their property, such as their home or car, and do things to scare them (43.1%).

More than 1 in 4 (26.0%) male stalking victims received unwanted cards, letters, flowers, or gifts. Almost half (45.7%) had a perpetrator sneak onto their property, including their home or car, and do things to scare them.

Female stalking victims experienced technology-facilitated behaviors, such as being tracked via GPS technology (15.6%), or monitored through computer software, apps, or other stalkerware (20.1%) without permission.

Male stalking victims experienced technology-facilitated behaviors, such as being tracked via GPS technology (29.3%) or monitored through computer software, apps, or other stalkerware (25.0%) without permission.

While women are more likely to receive unwanted gifts from their stalkers, men are a bit more likely to have perpetrators sneak onto their property and scare them, and are much more likely to be tracked via GPS or stalkerware, or via the hidden cameras mentioned above.

Goddamn, am I looking forward for the other data briefs to come out, nevermind the full report.

Yup. That is the case with most of those issues, they either make such claims without providing any numbers, knowing that other women will inevitably jump on it due to their high in-group bias and men will just accept and believe it due to internalized misandry. When they do bring up data, they focus solely on police-recorded stuff, which is just a fraction of the total and men underreport a lot compared to women.
