The level design is fairly good for the time, but the screen crunch is absolutely obnoxious and resulted in most of my deaths. I grew up on the GBA version so I wasn't used to the screen crunch.
I'd say it's a 7/10 for the time. Nowadays it's probably a 6/10 level design wise. It's heavily elevated by the art design and music.
