Before you sleep most of your most painful moments and past mistakes flash before your eyes without anyway of avoiding thinking about them, well i believe thats what happens when you die too, you soul/consciousness or whatever you wanna call it gets stuck in your memories (saved game) living an infinity in your disappointments and agonizing pain without a way of changing anything or escping, so unless you make peace with yourself and make best of your left time on earth i don't see any point of roping it won't free you from your pain, it will make it last forever
