First of all, why consuming is bad? People need food, electricity, clothes, cars - all this thing makes people life better. Even if there are parts of economy that produce useless shit you don't need to be part of it.

Secondly if you want kids, and you want be good father you need a job anyway. And whatever job you do you will produce some sort of goods or else...
