In elementary school I had tons of friends and I was happy. However, I was initiating most of our interactions. All my friends were my classmates, but my friends had other friends outside of school, while I only had them. One day my dad took note of the fact that I was trying hard to hang out with my friends, to the point where I was a pushover. He said "Never chase them, if they want to be your friends, they'll do it themselves". I took his advice.
I rarely hung out with them, I slowly grew apart from my friends, and by freshman year of HS I had 0 friends and I've never really had a friend since. I am, however, thankful for his advice as today I have a negative view of friendship, I think it's transactional, fake, and destructive at times. In my ideal life I'd have a girl and kids and never interact with anyone else. Thanks dad.
