Particularly surrounding GTA 5, a lot of people seem to hate it just on the basis of it being a popular AAA game. There are perfectly legitimate reasons to dislike it, the story is poorly written at times and the map can lack variety, but overwhelmingly I see people hate on it for its popularity (or that its political commentary is slightly left-leaning).

Mainly I just hate this new trend of gamers hating on games solely for their popularity or their dev teams being left-leaning rather than their actual experience while playing.

Seriously, grille these people more on why they dislike a certain game and they’ll be hard pressed to come up with an answer, almost like they didn’t even play the game in the first place

Downsides of GTA 5 to me are worse characters and story than GTA 4/EFLC and San Andreas (it is quite possible that this is justified by California early 2010s setting so they didn't want to make it all that serious) and the map which is filled with empty space such as mountains but again i think they done it because of hardware limitations of PS3 and Xbox 360 which games originally was made for. Wish car physics was slightly less arcadish as well. People go into extremes with GTA 5, they either extremely overrate it or unjustifiably criticize it to extreme.

Yeah I don't get the GTA hate. GTA V Online has one of the most awful communities that has ever existed though, I'll say that, but all the GTA games themselves are very good. I personally like IV the best.

Absolutely. GTA 5s characters felt cartoonishly written compared to IV and SA (especially Trevor). Also the political commentary felt way too heavy handed at points.

Also the driving in GTA IV was more suited for the dense urban map rather than GTA V’s country roads and wide boulevards. Emphasizing hairpin turns and maneuverability in IV, V’s driving would’ve been a nightmare on a map like that.

For GTA VI, I really don’t trust that they can write social commentary that will be funny and meaningful. GTA games have always always been packed with social commentary on American society and I think GTA VI will just drop the ball… way too over-the-top and obvious

GTA 5 hate is mostly because Rockstar is milking every penny of profit from it for over a decade now instead of making a new game.

It's also not the same since San Andreas, and I don't think it's possible to bring back the unique feel it had at the time.

I like it, especially GTA online. Rockstar are pretty greedy with their shark cards which is a valid reason to hate on them and GTA 5. Imagine paying real money for in-game currency . It's sad that guys are so slop-addicted that they won't boycott companies that hate their guts just because they put out "good" games. You have to ask at some point which gender has got more conviction. Had the exact same experience and we think alike. Havent watched a new series in aeons. Last time i tried was like 10 years ago with "The man in the high castle", what could go wrong riiiight ? An alternative history story set in the 60's. Then the very first episode it shows me some american foid physically dominating a jap man, i was like yeah i'll pass on that i always thought that we underestimate the psychosocial changes induced in entire generations who grew up watching women beat up men on tv, it fucking sucks. And dont get me wrong i also dedramatize the usual woke crap, it's nothing compared to the things you mention.

I dont think you're paranoid those things are obvious signs of a cultural shift. If i watch a series about the axis winning the second world war why one of the opening scenes wouldn't show me badass imagery of a winning axis might and pride. But no it has to shove le strong woman down my throat, forget about the sacrifices of millions of men and the like.

Foid characters feel so boring. Writers don't want to be seen portraying a woman as vulnerable or weak so they're almost universally written as the "straight-edge" heroine character who is always the responsible one of the group.

If they were actually 'flawed' (flaws lead to weakness and vulnerability in character), we'd probably hate them even more. What most guys actually want is for foid characters to be written like male characters.
