Modern Western RPGs are just shitty JRPGs

Western RPGs used to be great because they were true RPGs in the sense that they allowed you to truly immerse yourself in a role and gave you multiple choices with what to do in it. Morrowind for example allows you to kill main characters (although the story doesn't continue if you do.) This level of freedom is the only reason I played games with arguably shitty stories and world building like Dragon Age Origins.

Nowadays Western RPGs have devolved into shittier JRPGs where the story is the main focus and there's limited choices. The only differences being that the story is far shittier than the average JRPG, the characters are uglier and the combat is less interesting.


The amount of choice a game like Star Field offers you is laughable. Why would I play Star Field when I could play a JRPG with randomly generated dungeons where I can date hot waifus instead? Either give me the ability to make more decisions or give me waifus. That is all

I see what you mean tbh, the supposed defining feature that separates Western and Jap RPGs is how the player's choices affect the plot instead of following it linearly like it is in JRPGs.

Western wise elder scrolls is really all I can recommend. Bioware is cringe unless you choose to be evil. Japanese wise I'd recommend the trails games or Xenoblade.

Character development is good. Story is usually bad in RPGs. Just give me an adventure with some characters that I can care about.

Both modern WRPGS and JRPGS are total trash. Divinity OS2 was the last WRPG i have enjoyed since it gave you freedom of builds like old rpgs, and for JRPGS i only like YS games since they have cool fast paced combat that won't make me fall asleep with dreadful turn based shit, i could enjoy more of them like Fire Emblem with actual high iq grid based turn based combat but since they have dogshit localization created by troons and foids i will never play them.

I highly disagree a lot of games were better or more interesting than jap games with much greater depth of any of them, but there are a shitload of great jp games so i'm not biased like you are.
And about those Jrpgs i for sure love standing there like idiot and keep pressing same melee/elemental attack till boss dies And that's 90% of nip shitty RPGS that's the peak brain rot since 80s. You nips always had shit taste in games and that haven't changed:

But at least you can make some great games shame that you won't appreciate them and only buy dogshit titles (or even worse demakes)
