If people like Kafka, Schopenhauer, Dostoevsky and many other influential writers and philosophers were born today, society would tell them to see a therapist and to start pumping themselves with SSRIs, diminishing their intellectual capacity and destroying their identity. Imagine how many great minds we have lost to antidepressants, which are infamously known for their capacity to have adverse effects on cognitive function. What is even more tragic is the fact that people with higher IQ tend to suffer more often from depression, making them the ones more susceptible to this harmful treatment.
