Most people tend to underestimate mental illness because it never was strong enough for them or even happened at all. Mental illness can not only make you an incel but it can easily cost you your life if you aren't very careful. I've had long stretches of paranoid delusions for example, i literally did not know if what i felt is real or not, ridden with anxiety and causing a fuss with people who hate me so i could've easily been killed or hurt but i got medicated and realized i need to hide at home.
