Many women criticize most men for using women as validation, but the fact is that men that are obsessed with sports, video games, porn, etc. are criticized the most.

So women complain about men who put women in a pedestal, but also criticize and demonize men who don't. Only men who win are those who don't put women in a pedestal but also are attractive to them, so most men cannot simply be like that.

The whole "I want a guy who is obsessed with me" shtick is simply female insecurity re: modern "hookup" culture and how non-committal relationships are. They want to pursue them and to commit to them without offering anything in return-- they want men to be traditional without being remotely traditional themselves.
