I took the 2021 and 2022 GSS data for the variables "partners" and "sexfreq" (which can be found at

resp.) and did some very basic data analysis. To wit, I first checked that the total number of responses for "partners" and "sexfreq" were the same for both 2021 and 2022. They were. Next, I filtered out the "inapplicable", "no answer" and "do not know" answers and I made bar charts for the remaining categories. They were rather similar.

These are the bar charts for the filtered "partners" with 2021 on the left and 2022 on the right. The first bar for each year corresponds to the category "no partners". The number of filtered samples totals 2313 for 2021 and 1577 for 2022.

Ditto for "sexfreq". The first bar for each year corresponds to the category "not at all". The number of filtered samples totals 2157 for 2021 and 1507 for 2022.

In case you're curious as to the percentages

• "no partners" in 2021 is 25.9%
• "no partners" in 2022 is 29.7%
• "not at all" in 2021 is 29.3%
• "not at all" in 2022 is 31.9%

All in all, the percentages corresponding to "no partners" and "not at all" are rather similar (as they should be) and they seem to have increased slightly from 2021 to 2022. And while I have obviously not taken gender or age into account, the discrepancy with your image for 2022 is still rather jarring (esp. because 2021 matches rather well).
