This all just goes to show that the prevailing points of view in mental health discourse are absurd. Shortly after being denied as a mental pathology, homosexuality turned into a literal, medical pathology which killed millions of people decades before Covid-19. So the fields of psychology and psychiatry which are ostensibly meant to reduce human suffering actually contributed to some of the worst suffering of our era, after re-purposing themselves to the neoliberal ethos of the 1970s.

As for the fact that Genghis Khan's genetics are so abound in the world's population, this outright discredits the notion of a "good personality" as being conducive to mating success; in reality, all "good" means is "grandiose." It means the kind of ostentatious pillaging and raping of a mass-murdering warlord.

This is an excellent point and it's not mentioned enough when it comes to discourse on modern sexual decadence.

It is actually a private pathology, rather than a public pathology, and so based in broader trends of social alienation.

Sexual paraphilias and other aberrant, antisocial behaviors would not and could not be so commonplace if people were constantly subjected to each other's scrutiny like it was in the environment of evolutionary adaptation - i.e., if we still lived in rooted communities, rather than uprooted market zones where hardly anybody knows each other, and the only relevant social consideration is that of the transaction.

You can see from this how economic capitalism and social liberalism are based in the same source, and this source can be traced back to the 1970s, with the founding of both neoliberalism and the New Left.

For a formative, cinematic example of the modern-day fusion between capitalist plutocracy and liberal democracy, I recommend a critical analysis of the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). It involves a charismatic, psychopathic protagonist who doesn't want to perform manual labor (a representation of the New Left's disenchantment with working class politics), and so manipulates his own transfer to a long-term mental health institution in order to evade his work detail in prison.

While in this mental ward, he first mocks and undermines the culture of rituals and routines there, which is meant to reduce anxiety in the patients (many of whom are ugly and autistic, especially the "NPCs" of the movie who are mere props you're meant to laugh at and don't go onto to become main characters -- and so many of whom don't matter).

Crucially, the psychopathic protagonist then overthrows the proscription on alcoholism and casual sex in the mental institution (in that order, and through the corruptibility of a Black supervisor), along with its reification in the strict/prim Head Nurse.

The Head Nurse threatens a young male patient (relatively attractive) who just had casual sex on the psychopath's instigation with one of his own girlfriends (i.e. the psychopathic protagonist is polygamous and unpossessive, or rather polyamorous) with social shaming through his mother -- who the Head Nurse apparently knows personally! This is perhaps the most surprising thing in the movie and a throwback to an era which wasn't as socially alienated -- although, of course, it wasn't meant to be the most surprising part.

In order to evade being socially shamed for his sexual immorality, the young patient commits suicide, and the wicked Head Nurse is in turn executed by the psychopathic protagonist for her apparent breach of the ascendant moral code of individual agent maximalism and confidentiality/anonymity/alienation (JFL). Confidentiality would later be enshrined as a medical standard in order to protect homosexuals from social stigma surrounding AIDS, by preventing them from being publicly revealed/shamed for having it.

Note that just the night prior in the movie, the psychopath was selling everybody on uprooting themselves and moving to Canada through an escape from the institution (escaping from captivity is a prominent ideation of psychopaths), but, hilariously, he was too impulsive to actually accomplish it, and instead passed out drunk, proving himself to be ineffectual at everything except for destruction -- including the destruction of his own life! This is a very apt metaphor for the New Left, which may once have had the conceit of destroying bourgeois cultural standards in order to sow the seeds of a future leftist revolution, as deferred by the contingencies of consumerism, but now just serves as the official ideology or cultural hegemony of the capitalist ruling class.

The movie was made in Berkeley, California, known as the most leftist university town in the US (as seen with the fervor of the riots there regarding Trump in 2016), and it's incredible to see how despite being a landmark film which impacted real life political policy, absolutely nothing in it threatened the foundations of capitalism, especially in retrospect (but it should've even been evident at the time). It just served to make American society a worse place to live except for Dark Triad Chads, up to and including serial killers (serial killings became a major phenomenon at precisely this time).

Not to be vapid and quote myself, but the real-life equivalents of the ugly and autistic "NPC" prop characters you aren't meant to care about but rather laugh at in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest ended up becoming homeless and contributing to the homeless crisis that proceeded the closure of long-term mental health facilities.

After all, according to studies on the matter, the average educated American "tolerates" homeless people, but doesn't agree with giving them financial aid (JFL). It's a microcosm of the broader cultural hegemony of smiley-faced social liberalism as paired with ruthless economic capitalism.

Just like with no-fault divorce, the "conservative" icon Ronald Reagan helped spearhead closing long-term mental facilities -- a true innovation in maximizing individual autonomy at the expense of the social good, and even the good of the individuals themselves.
