A man is in custody after he was seen on video throwing a Molotov Cocktail inside a Brooklyn deli, the FDNY said Sunday.
The incident took place shortly before 8am Saturday at NR Rock Deli in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Video from outside the establishment shows 38-year-old Joel Mangal lighting a bottle and hurling it through the front door of the store.
Video then shows Mangal light a second Molotov Cocktail to throw inside as well, when a nearby onlooker knocks it out of his hand, sending it to the ground.
Video from inside the deli shows a person stumbling through the flames in an attempt to escape through the front door while another person hops over the counter to break free.
An employee at the family-run deli said Mangal first came into the deli and got into an argument with one of the store’s regular customers, before leaving the premises.
After a while, Mangal came back to the business and asked for that customer.
When staff members denied any whereabouts, Mangal cursed at the workers, implying they were lying before threatening to “burn the building down”.
Shortly after, Mangal came back and committed the fiery attack.
Mangal was arrested and charged with arson, assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief.
He was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail at Brooklyn Criminal Court Sunday.
