If you look at that front it is like 1,500-1,600 km. The Russians are doing a lot better lately.

For Russia:

-The Russians are now in provinces only where they have strong majority support, or if not a full majority, then a near majority
-The Donetsk Peoples Republic and Luhansk Peoples Republic both have their own large armies and popular support from the people in their new Republics.

-Reports that 20,000 mercenaries from Syria, Libya and Russian mercenary companies are in the fight now, with presumably much more to come
-Chechens in the fight and doing well, inspiring others

-Russian army appears to be better at supplying in the SE, and the Russian tactics seem better
-The perimeter the Russians have established with a slow moving front, the Ukrainians can't use the Javelins so much

-Russia seems to me to be bankrolled by China now, so essentially limitless funding
-reports that Russia is buying air defense systems from Iran, which Russia desperately needs more state of the art air defense systems

-Russian infantry digs into positions, then waay, way back the Russians have a ton of artillery. The Russians have tons of all kinds of artillery and also rocket trucks from the Soviet army days
-Russia is pounding targets with airstrikes and cruise missile attacks across Ukraine

For Ukraine:

-The state of Ukraine is no longer in danger of collapse
-The slow moving Russian front won't able to push forwards very far over a short horizon, the near term is whether Russia can get control of the full amounts of the SE 4 provinces and how much of Kharkiv province

-River of weaponry is increasing from NATO
-Ukraine has a huge standing army now

-But they are severely outgunned in artillery and with the Russian perimeter of dug in infantry the Javelins aren't as damaging as they were elsewhere
-taking heavy bombing across many cities each day, that they will need NATO air defenses to slow down

Who else high AF right now

Looking like that Novorossiya scenario is going to be the one that plays out. Pyrrhic victory imo.

That's a better analysis than what I see on the main news site.

Are you sure they are still using Red Army rocket trucks from WW2?

What's the name of the Iranian surface to air missile systems called? Has the Russian S400 not proven effective?

over for Tavor-wielding "nazis"

Nothing new here with this info you posted. This is exactly how Russia won every single war that they actually won in the past. WW2, Chechnya, all were slow brutal wars in which the Russians suffered heavy losses, but they keep coming and bombard everything to rubble and ashes.

That Blizkrieg stuff is for Germans. Just like figthing with many allieson your side is American style. It is what it is.

Thanks. Thats how it is if I can stay unbiased and keep reading and researching and thinking about something is to understand the big picture of what is going on an summarize it.. plus I don't have to be biased when reporting as I am not tied to any outcome.

The Soviet Union went up to 1991, so its not that bad. They did appear to have WWII rocket trucks although the rockets might be new.

One thing when I was reading about the war in Syria I realized is that actual war in 2016 was hardly different than in 1916. Machine guns, mortars, the main weapons are different types of artillery, grenades, trucks transporting stuff, sand bags, trenches, tunnels, hiding in buildings and behind hills. We are starting to see an actual change in real world combat with this new stuff the US/UK have, but most war like it is now in Russia is still hardly different than 1916 or in WWII.

The Russian shit never seems to work for any technology and they seem to have few copies, even though they spent $100's and 100's of billions in the last 20 years allegedly buying stuff, most of the money probably was stolen by their corrupt government. There has been mass arrests in Russia of military and intelligence officers, as the war showed very obviously who was lying.

Thing with war its like free market competition - you see very quickly who is corrupt, who is losing, who doesn't know what they were talking about, because it all gets tested in the real world. So there is all these investigations now in Russia.

Ya it seems that is the way it will go, with the 4 SE provinces Russia taking, and maybe also parts of Kharkiv province.

Odessa province and Mykolaiv province and Dnepropetrovsk province look like they will stay in Ukraine.

They get a perimeter that is layered with dug in infantry with normal infantry weapons. Then way back they have a ton of artillery and rocket trucks. And try to get air defenses.

Then say their new artillery shells and rockets are running a week behind schedule, it doesn't matter that much, they just wait for those and they always keep a stockpile on site incase the enemy attacks.

The questions to come is will the US/UK technology be able to break through this as the technology gets there in the coming months. Another question is how able to take casualties are the Russians and Ukrainians today. A third question which was answered was can Russia economically support a war effort - yes with China bankrolling them they will never run out of money, parts, whatever they need.. even computer chips the Chinese can get. Including importantly Russia is going to be able to buy weapons on the international arms market
