Biologically human babies are very high-investment (280 day gestation, a year of breast feeding before they can even move around on their own and then 13-18 years of care before they’re fully self sufficient). Lion cubs are much lower investiment (110 day gestation, weaned and able to feed themselves by 6 months and then 2-3 years of care before fully self sufficient). Low investment offspring are more likely to be killed by competing males.
Humans (and maybe other mamals with high investiment offspring but idk) also have adaptations to protect against a rival male impregnatin g a mother before killing her offspring. Foid hormones change while breastfeeding so it’s virtually impossible for them to get pregnant before their infant is weaned. Human and primate mothers also seem to get significantly distressed when their children die, which may also be some sort of adaptation. Biology is fascinating. Pretty sure we developed not to do this even if the lion’s method makes a lot of sense.
