After looking into it more, I've concluded that he probably really did it. However, there are lessons to learn.

For one, the main reason he got caught is because he left his sheath. This was a rookie mistake and a dumb move and he would not have gotten caught/had to take a plea deal without it. This sheath led to DNA evidence. That, and it was just dumb to leave that part of a weapon. If you're gonna take the sheath at all, take it away afterward.

He also switched his phone off for a window to attempt to mask his location. This was a dumb move, because it coincided with the murders and showed that he attempted to hide his location. Leave your phone at home when you're committing crimes. Get a burner phone if you must.

Lastly, avoid using a personal vehicle. This was another factor that got him caught. If you're gonna drive, consider a rental (and clean thoroughly after), or park it somewhere far away and traverse on foot. (Gotta watch out for surveillance cameras tho).

I'm sure other lessons could be learned but these are the main ones.

Would be more based if he thought it through and never got caught.
