When I was 11, in school, it was towards the end of the year and everyone in my class had already gotten their weekly award certificate thing. Some people in my class may have even got a second or even third already before I had even got one. So after this assembly someone in my class wins their second or third award. As our class walks back to the classroom in single file when I'm walking past the teachers who teach our class I deliberately bring down my eyelids to express and show how I feel. The teachers see this and they do that thing where the adults talk as if the children are deaf and laugh and say something like "he must be disappointed" and other things.
Then the next week during a lesson we're doing this thing in English where you have to improve your work based on the notes that the teacher gave us and my note was to vary my sentence starters for each sentence. Randomly my teacher unnaturally comes over and looks at my work and then goes over again what it was that I needed to do and then in a really fake and unnatural way compliments me for having been able to do what was just a easy and quick straight forward simple task during the lesson and says something like "ohh you might be in for award this week" and so that week I was given the award in assembly.
It was all so fucking cringey and fake and forced. She only did it because it was mandatory and I felt nothing as I went to collect the certificate and stand up infront of everybody. It was dehumanising how she put on an act Infront of me thinking that I was falling for her fakeness.
Similar thing happened in the year before this where my teacher had this thing where he'd give lucazade to people in the class as a reward and I was not only the last person to receive it but again there were people who had been given it twice and maybe even three or four times before me.
I guess it's better to be chosen than to not be chosen at all. I think there may have been years where I didn't get an award whatsoever but I can't remember.
There was this time in the year before that where everyone in the class had to learn a magic trick and show it to the class and I didn't bother to learn one and luckily got no trouble for it because the teacher didn't notice that I hadn't done anything.
