The Kyrgyz were historically nomadic pastoralists, and their lifestyle favored low inhibition and violent demeanor.

IIRC, they were and are still considered to be "wild" in comparison to their (historically) settled neighbors, such as the Uzbeks.

As a Korean, the striking difference in behavior between us and the Kyrgyz is interesting, given our phenotypical similarities.

The worst of the large-scale clashes occurred in the cities of Osh and Uzgen. The violence was not just confined to urban zones; in the villages surrounding Uzgen and the Osh countryside, Kyrgyz herders, often going by horseback, terrorized Uzbek farmers with rape, murder, and property destruction.[9] In the foothills of Bak-Archa, four Kyrgyz shepherds rode many kilometers to kill the family of an Uzbek beekeeper.[10] Uzbek tea houses (choyxonas) were also targeted, and several reports involve the abduction and rape of female tea house-goers.[11]
Official estimates of the death toll range from over 300[13][14] to more than 600.[15] Unofficial figures range up to more than 10,000. According to unofficial estimates, more than 5,000 crimes were committed during the riots ranging from pillaging to murder.

Crowds of Kyrgyz from the countryside flocked to Osh, Jalal-Abad, and other towns to join the local Kyrgyz and Uzbek crowds to attack each other's neighborhoods. From 11 June through 14 June, there were killings and tortures, looting and setting fire to homes and businesses.
According to sources from the ethnic Uzbek community, at least 700 ethnic Uzbeks were killed in Jalal-Abad, where clashes were less intense than in Osh.[57] According to local sources, in Osh from 1,526[58] to more than 2,000[59] people died in the pogroms. Residents of Jalal-Abad claimed that at least 2,000 people died in total and the official figures were too low.[28] The Uzbek edition of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported on 16 June 2010, that 2,608 Uzbeks had been killed since the beginning of the clashes.[60]
The killings were performed with fearsome cruelty – many victims were raped and burned alive.[62][63] Armed gangs tried to prevent the wounded from receiving first aid. In Jalal-Abad crowds attacked the hospital where the wounded were receiving treatment.[64] The violence was facilitated by neglect from local police and military. Moreover, many sources and international organizations claimed that the local military actively participated in the ethnic clashes and looting.[65]

The trigger of the clashes was a brawl between four or five young local citizens and Egyptian students in a dormitory on May 13th at about 02:00.[4][5] Kyrgyzstani young men demanded cigarettes, which Egyptians refused.[6] An existing video footage depicts Egyptian students attacking Kyrgyzstani men.[7]
Later, it sparked retaliation by Kyrgyz mobs against foreigners in the country. Initially, over 100 Kyrgyz gathered "to take revenge on the foreigners who beat up residents."[10]
On Kyrgyz social media, rioters sent messages calling on locals to come out and attack foreigners. Streets were extremely dangerous as hundreds of Kyrgyz rioters were mercilessly beating any foreigner they saw.[14]

They have also experienced three revolutions since gaining independence in 1991. Who says that they and the Kazakhs are one people. Because both of them were called Kirghiz under the Russian Empire. And the division into the Kazakh SSR and the Kirghiz SSR was made by the Soviets.

Soviet demarcations in Central Asia were problematic for sure; they are also responsible for the instability of the Fergana Valley today.

I am guessing that you come from the north of the country because you identify as Tengri. I heard that in the south, such as the city of Osh, live the most pious Muslims of (ex-Soviet) Central Asia. Am I correct?

Water. Grain eating peasants are inherently low T and docile sheep so only 1% of raw meat eaters (aristocratic/rich elite) control the aggression and power. It’s also why rich people are often way taller and stronger than commoners in historically sedentary societies.

Raw milk chugging carnivore nomads however have uniform high T and strength due to every member of a tribe having access to good nutrition. The inherent lack of a strong class structure leads to chaotic behaviour where everyone thinks they’re hot shit.

Ethnically kyrgyz from Northwestern China. Ig you are right though, the cities adopted Islam the rural areas less so. Sort of similar to Mongolia where the cities adopted Buddhism.

The Kyrgyz also expelled Pakistani students from their country when a Pakistani man tried to court a Kyrgyz woman, leading to a fight and the evacuation of Pakistani citizens.

I remember watching this story on the news earlier, when they showed that Pakistan was using military planes to evacuate its students from the violence.

:feelsokman:

More than 11,000 Pakistani students and 15,000 Indian students are pursuing degrees in medicine in Kyrgyzstan.
It is somewhat strange that they wish to study at Kyrgyz universities. I wonder why?

It's probably cheaper than in their countries. Well, that's just my guess.

In fact, Stalin liked to use this region as a place for deportations.

The Kazakhs rose up in rebellion in the USSR in 1986 in Almaty, when an ethnic Russian was elected leader of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. This was one of the first open interethnic conflicts in the USSR.
They also led a strong uprising in 2022 against corruption, and they were able to defeat their own police and national guard in the clashes, forcing the Kazakh dictator to request Russian troops to crush the rebels.
