I’m not really a foreign car fan myself, but some of them are cool. Most foreign V8s are flat plane crankshafts and turbocharged, which makes high revs and lots of horsepower, but less torque low end. I prefer the sound and torque of a cross plane crank American V8 that’s naturally aspirated without a turbo.
Big Block Chevy is my all time favorite sounding engine. My Camaro has a 454 big block Chevy with a moderate cam in it, and man, that idle sound is even amazing, not to mention how throaty it is at top end. It’ll spin up the back tires with like 1/3 throttle, and that’s badass.

Because of sitting so long, the gasoline went bad, turning to varnish and ruining the carburetor. Also, it needs tires because they are old and dry rotted, plus a thermostat control for the electric fans. Right now, it just had a switch manual control, and the fans have to run all the time, and it drained the battery once in city driving because the alternator couldn’t keep up.
Overall though, it’s a solid car with no rust, a good engine, and good transmission. Just has some smaller mechanical issues to work through.

I have a 1970 Datsun 240z. These old cars don't like to sit. I try to wrench everything myself and it's extremely fascinating what engineers were able to achieve back then with just mechanical parts and bits. I probably learned more about cars in 2 years of wrenching on that 240z than I learned in a decade wrenching on my newer cars. On the newer cars, you just read codes and change sensors, but on the older ones you truely need to understand how the system works so that you can fine tune the mechanical bits, like setting valve lash, tuning carburators, tuning the ignition, setting sparkplug gaps, etc.

Not familiar with the Datsun 240z. What engine does that have? Pretty cool you work on it. I don’t get into working on the Camaro much because it’s very high end, but I do work on my own tractor and riding mowers. Had to replace the deck drive belt on one, and to do that, you remove the deck hangers, slide the deck out, take the pulley covers off, put the new belt on, and put it together again.
Also had a 17.5 horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine from a different mower apart to put the intake valve seat back in and do a repair. Usually, people junk them for this and give up, but I pulled the head off, and opened the valve for access by turning the engine over some. Then, put the valve seat back in, and used a metal punch to make small indentations in the block around the seat, and this helps hold the seat in. It’s your only chance to save one of these old flathead engines when this happens, because if you just press it in, it’ll keep coming back out.
Got it running again. Needs a new alternator too, and possibly some carburetor work.
Also fixed my push mower and string trimmer which had bad primer bulbs. Took the carburetors apart and replaced the bulb on both.

Mine used 5 gallons of gas in one hour of driving it looping around some streets in my town. Usually gets 5-8 miles per gallon city and 12 highway. And only can run on 93 Octane, so that makes it even more expensive. It'll spark knock on 87, so needs 93. Plus, the oil is racing oil with a zinc additive to help keep the old engine healthy. It's got a single carburetor.
