In the redpill community there's this idea of being needy.
A needy man is a man who craves a relationship with a girl. Because he acts needy, women don't want him.
So, for women to want him, he must act hard to get, ie : act as if he didnt need women, act as a someone who doesnt chase women.
"Surely if he ignores me, that means he has other options, and therefore he's high value, so now I want him" - women are supposed to think.
Hence the idea that by "ignorning women" or "going monk mode" or doing a "vow of celibacy", women will chase you.
They also support this theory by saying that when a man is with his girlfirend, girls give him more validation and signals, vs when he's celibate, they don't.
Of course they're completely missing the actual chain of causality here.
Men are not rejected because they are needy, they are needy because they're rejected. Not being needy doesnt change the fact that you're not attractive, which is the cause of your rejection.
Second, men might receive more signals when they're with their gf because of pre-selection. It's not the fact that they're alone and desperate that makes them repulsive, rather it's the fact that they have a girl that slightly boost their SMV.
