it’s a great company but I don’t have the experience yet

I went ahead and applied today anyway for the heck of it. I put $110k as my salary expectation and I gave a bomb answer to “Why this company?”. They reached out to me via email a few hours later to set up a phone interview!!!!!!!!! And they made it clear that they encourage women to apply even if they think they’re under qualified.

To be fair, this is how hiring pretty much works in the corporate world (not just the woman part). Upper management gives a huge fucking acceptable salary range for a position, and it’s HRs job to find the most qualified applicant for the least amount of money.

Upper corpo might say they just need somebody to fill this job for less than $250k/yr, and HR tells you the position pays $80k/yr. You accept, and HR gets to brag to their overlords about how much money they saved.

Also, job listings are always filled with tons of requirements that don’t actually matter.

When all you’re doing is making basic spreadsheets with the occasional graph. Something that takes 10min to learn. If they ever ask in an interview, “can you do x/y/z?” You just say yes. Worst they can do is fire you.
