VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS
| Today (24) is celebrated the solemnity of Pentecost, which commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the apostles, fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Chapter two of the Book of Acts describes that, โsuddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.โ John Paul II, reflecting on this event in his encyclical Dominum et vivificantem, noted that โthe Second Vatican Council speaks of the birth of the Church on the day of Pentecost. This event constitutes the definitive manifestation of what had already been accomplished in the same Upper Room on Easter Sunday.โ โThe Risen Christ came and was the โbearerโ of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles. He gave it to them, saying: โReceive the Holy Spirit.โ This, which happened then inside the Upper Room, โwith the doors closed,โ would later, on the day of Pentecost, be publicly manifested before men.โ Later, the Pope of the Family quotes the conciliar document Lumen Gentium, which emphasizes that โthe Holy Spirit dwells in the Church and in the hearts of the faithful as in a temple (cf. 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19); and in them he prays and bears witness to their filial adoption (cf. Gal 4:6; Rom 8:15-16, 26). He introduces the Church to the knowledge of all truth (cf. Jn 16:13), unites her in communion and ministry, builds her up and guides her with the various hierarchical and charismatic gifts, and enriches her with his fruits (cf. Est 4:11-12; 1 Cor 12:4);
