I would say japan is still more technologically advanced than the US, at least in terms of tech use in everyday life, I have been there. Specially their bathrooms are 100 years ahead of those in the US, if you objectively compare, it's unbelievable.

Yea, during the 80s and 90s japan made some great cultural/technological influences, but they lagged behind because they could not catch up with the internet and shit. But if you look closely, the only difference between 80s and 2010s is mobile phones and internet and all the rest of the shits are basically same as before.
