Previous thread for November/December 2021 can be viewed here.
It has been over a year since Larson (@Leucosticte) was arrested after allegedly flying from his home in Virginia to kidnap a 12-year-old Californian girl. Larson currently faces the following federal charges: 1) Kidnapping, 2) Transportation of Minor with Intent to Commit Illegal Sexual Activity, 3) Coercion and Enticement of a Minor, 4) Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 5) Receipt and Distribution of Child Pornography.
Update
Following lengthy delays, a forensic evaluation of Larson's mental competency was completed by a female psychologist at the Federal Bureau of Prisons. A hearing on this issue is scheduled for January 7th, 2022. Prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California, which requested the evaluation, intend to argue that Larson is sufficiently competent to assist in his defense, and that at the time of the offense, Larson understood the criminality of his actions.
If the case does proceed to trial, it will most likely be several months away due to enormous backlogs in this particular federal district court.
