It's a shame that this album can never be remastered. The original master copy was recorded over. It was common back then for record companies to reuse studio reel tapes once the vinyl was produced for any first recordings for new unknown bands, so the original unmixed version is lost forever. It was also common for studios to severely limit studio time for said new bands. What you hear on this album therefore, is essentially Kansas all playing together and nailing the entire album in ONE TAKE. From a musical perspective, when you consider the high level of difficulty in the material on this album, it is a real testament to the caliber of musicians they were.

first time I saw them was in 1976, at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago... so much talent...saw them again last year at the Joliet Fest in Illinois...only two original members left, but you wouldn't know it by hearing them...

This really brings out some deep emotions for me. Kansas was the band for myself and my closest friends in high school. We used to see them every time we could. The first time was at the Villanova Field house in Feb. 1976 when I was fifteen. I saw a vid of Icarus from that concert listed on Youtube and was afraid to listen to it for fear that it would not be as good as I remembered it. Boy was I wrong! It is fabulous. Kansas was a great band. They never disappointed at a live show in the day.

Same bro I love all those bands. My favorite band Van der Graaf Generator has some gnarly organ. The organist was an electrical engineer and souped it up to make it kino. There isn't even any electric guitar on this song. Check out this solo

I could never get into them because of the vocals but I like the song “Killer” off that album, also like “Scorched Earth” and “Refugees”.

Bruh I love the vocals. Straight up, a lot of VDGG songs I didn't like at first, but have grown on me a lot after further listens. My favorite song of all time, Still Life, I thought was boring at first. But a couple years later I reevaluated and now it's my most listened to song. I listened to it so much I know all the lyrics

This is my second favorite song of theirs. It's easier to listen to and I loved it first listen

Fuck yeah. They made a ton of kino. Straight up, they had a string of 8 consecutive albums where I liked every song. Their first one up to Interview. On Reflection is a gem. Like one of the best songs of all time imho
