I am done. I can't even have long-term peace. Every single time I start feeling good, something fucks me over.

you just made me realize something. my depression is much worse now than it was years ago but i don't have mood swings anymore, i used to feel much worse on some days, but now it's much more stable. I just realized that that is probably because as my depression got worse I stopped feeling joy, and since I don't even remember what joy feels like because i haven't felt it in such a long time I don't get momentarily happy anymore and then it gets bad again and that makes me exponentially more depressed. I don't know how to feel about this realization

I guess it's partly because of aging. You just get numb to everything.
