Welcome to Incels.is - Involuntary Celibate Forum

Welcome! This is a forum for involuntary celibates: people who lack a significant other. Are you lonely and wish you had someone in your life? You're not alone! Join our forum and talk to people just like you.

It's scary how important looks are. Characters in game. movies and anime, avatars on this forum, a cat's cuteness - looks determine my attitude.

Knowing these facts for years, understanding concepts like the halo effect etc... I still can't believe how much looks determine the way a human thinks about something.

And I'm actually a person that gets to the issue of things - I don't care about formalities and pointless details. I always want to know and see the real, the important aspects. Even in video games, while people pay for cosmetic stuff or grind for days just to look better, I only cared about numbers and power.

But even I am greatly influenced by appearances. It's uncanny, it affects everything, every aspect of life.

I know this thread has been posted like 50 times, but for some reason it's still hard for my mind to accept this fact, it's so weird when we are apparently logical and rational creatures. Guess we're just dumb monkeys that can talk.

Lookism is everywhere and ingrained into all of us. Why do you think only attractive people are always the heroes while the uglies are villains? Why do you think that people spend hours in character creation in video games and always have their characters either be a Stacy or Chad or any of their variants? Why do you think we're here now? Why do you think "femcels" can't get Chads to be invested into them emotionally? Why do you think users with cute anime girl avatars get more responses and have more people follow them?

It's all looks, if you don't got the looks you're not going to get very far sadly. I'm guilty of this too, I only play as attractive female characters in video games, I block gross/ugly avatars and signatures with adblock on this forum, I only have cute anime girls as my avatar on this forum. So I'm not exempt. I guess in a sense we deserve to be here since we let looks determine almost everything for us.

Yeah, I played WoW for years and most of my characters were Blood Elves.

Too many people think their mind can override the physical environment, that includes their own physique and face. This is related to being in a civilization that has been highly effective in controlling the environment. If aqueducts and roads can overcome mountains, then it's of the same logical pattern to think that other aspects of the natural world can be overcome with force of will. This is the why the focus on "personality" has such appeal. People want to think they're "bigger" than the rules of the natural world.

Absolutely true, we all are affected by lookism. I don't like the company of deformed and ugly people, which is very hypocritical in my case, but it's true.

I deserve to suffer.

I really like that you use the word "scary" instead of "unfair" or something like that. It's such a small detail but it's SO HIGH IQ

Yep.
Lookism is everywhere.
As long as you have a perception of whats visually appealing.
Then, you´re healthy.
