One tabletop RPG setting I would recommend as a replacement is Talislanta. It has been around since the early-1980s. It feels like a fantasy setting inspired by '70s prog rock album covers and the game mechanics are better than those of D&D. The company released all of their sourcebooks for free to download in PDF format.
