Games nowadays are used as yet another form of conditioning, manipulation, brainwashing, just like movies.

But that has always been the case, if you ask me.
Even back when video games were a nerdy niche thing, thus not reaching the masses, game developers would still add false information in their games, because they most likely did not know any better and were conditions, manipulated and brainwashed themselves, through movies and such.

Just read about what inspired the developers of the 80's and 90's to make their games, write those stories.
They are inspired by movies and books, from the 80's and earlier.

And back when the internet was in its infancy and video gaming was frowned upon, the only way to reach the masses was through movies, radio, books and music.
