Isn't Hinduism(and Jainism that everyone forgets about) more popular in India?
Always thought that more SEA related areas were more Buddhist than India.
 
Ashoka liked Buddhism and that pissed off the Brahmins. So the Brahmins killed his descendants and the empire that supported buddhism just to regain their power.

I dunno but yeah the Chinese really ran with it.
 
Buddhism is a bit like Hinduism for everyone but Indians already had Hinduism so they didn't really need it.
